Amy Brown, 83, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024 at the Manor at St. Luke Village. She
lived her entire life in the Hazleton area, most of it at 524 East Broad Street.
Amy had a wide circle of friends, many and varied interests, and a devout faith. She was a
member of Annunciation Parish, Church of St. Gabriel. She was active in Saint Gabriel’s Church
as a eucharistic minister and the Women’s Guild of the parish. She was also proud of having run
the rummage sale for the Guild with many of her friends, for thirty-five years. She was a
faithful member of the Drums Area Garden Club, who kept a spectacular garden that brought
joy to many. Her garden was an extension of herself. She loved everything about plants and
flowers and appreciated the dig it out of the dirt aspects of nurturing beauty in life through
gardening. She was a voracious reader and often referred to herself as having “lived at” the
Hazleton Area Public Library. She had a passion for painting and enjoyed taking classes at the
Hazleton Art League.
In addition, she was a certified beautician, who worked for several years at the JoMar Beauty
School and Shop. She was a blessing to several families whose young children she cared for
with love and tenderness, enriching their lives and hers. Many years later she lovingly
remembered their first words, their favorite things to do, and her special memories of each and
every one of them.
In the end, she was true to her motto: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body but rather to skid in
sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out
and screaming wildly “Woo Hoo, What a ride!”
Amy was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Hugh Brown. She is survived by her
Sister, Helen Popiak, her three children and their spouses, Tim and Sheri Brown, Bernard and
Elizabeth Brown, and Jennifer and Eric Shultz, her four grandchildren Kaitlin Beckmann, William
Brown, Rebecca Shultz, Karah Shultz, and her two great grandchildren, Lucas and Caroline
Beckmann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 AM at Annunciation Parish, Church of
