David L. Simmons, 63, of Hazleton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus.
Born in Charleston, SC, David was the son of Retha Mae (Singleton) Simmons and the late Leroy Simmons. He spent part of his early years in New York City before making Atlanta his home in 1988. In 2010, he relocated to Hazleton, where he spent his later years.
David dedicated his career to serving as a state correctional officer in both Baltimore and Atlanta before his well-earned retirement. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Hazleton.
Above all, David cherished his family. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren, who brought endless happiness into his life.
David is survived by his beloved children: Tanisha Smith of Kelayres, Evan Dennis of Atlanta, Sasha Simmons of Atlanta, Isaih Simmons of Hazleton, and Jonel Simmons of Hazleton. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, cherished relatives, and dear friends.
A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM at the Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home, Inc., located at 532 N. Vine St., Hazleton. Pastor Deramus of the Apostolic Faith Church will officiate the service.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
David’s kindness, devotion to family, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
