Eugene Riley, 85 of Hazleton, passed away on Friday, October11th at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton Campus, with his loving wife at his side.
He was born April 21, 1939 to John and Theresa Riley and graduated from St Gabriel’s High School. Upon graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving the majority of his tour of duty in Germany. Upon his discharge he attended King’s College and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. He then worked at the Beryllium Corporation. Several year later, he began his career with the Hazleton City Police Department and retired with the rank of lieutenant.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Riley and Jerry Riley.
He is survived by his wife, Nola, who he married in 1972. He is also survived by his three children: John and wife Amy Bruno Riley, Molly and husband Brendan Cygan, and Catherine Riley; his four cherished grandchildren: Jack and Kaitlin Riley and Maggie and Lila Cygan; and his two sisters: Mary Ellen Stish and husband Richard and Deborah Mertz and husband Charles.
The family wishes to thank LVHN Hospice and the 7h floor staff of LVHN Hospital for their kindness and their wonderful care of Gene.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:30 AM at All Saints Church, McAdoo. Graveside services with military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, McAdoo.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM prior to the Mass.
