Gregory Stringent Obituary

Gregory J. “Greg” Stringent passed away peacefully at his home.

Born in Johnstown, PA, Greg was the beloved son of Rose (Kyler) Stringent and the late Edward
A. Stringent. His family later relocated to Pardeesville, where he and his parents, along with his
brothers, created a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

A 1980 graduate of Hazleton High School, Greg went on to work at Fierro’s Meat Market in
Lattimer. However, his true dream was to open an Irish pub. In 2003, he made that dream a
reality when he and his wife opened Deb and Greg’s—a welcoming and friendly establishment
where family and friends gathered to create lasting memories.

In 2010, Greg began working at Bimbo Bakery, where he was known for his unwavering
dedication and strong work ethic, rarely missing a day on the job.

Above all, Greg’s greatest joy was his role as a devoted son, brother, stepfather, uncle, and
friend. He lovingly cared for his mother for many years, cherishing the time they spent together.
Family meant everything to Greg, and he took great pride in being a supportive brother and
uncle. As a stepfather, he provided unwavering love and guidance, instilling important values in
those he cared for.

An outdoor enthusiast, Greg found peace and adventure in nature. He successfully backpacked
many miles of the Appalachian Trail, embraced mountain biking, and relished the freedom of
riding his motorcycle on the open road. He was also an active member of the Owl’s Club, the
YMPA, the E.C.U.S. Club, and the Jeddo Stars.

Greg was preceded in death by his father, Edward Stringent.

He leaves behind his loving mother, Rose Stringent; his brothers, Anthony Stringent and wife
Rene of Hazleton, Ronald E. Stringent and companion Maryann Feno of Hazleton, and Michael
L. Stringent and Mary Beth Salazer Stringent of Harrisburg. He is also survived by his beloved partner, Lisa Koslop of Hazleton;
his former wife, Debra Metz-Stringent of Liberty, SC; his stepchildren, Justin Metz and wife
Lauren of Eagle Rock, and Ashley Sanborn and husband Robert of Greenville, SC; and his
cherished step-grandchildren, George Metz, Charlotte Metz, Connor Sanborn, and Dakota
Sanborn. Greg will also be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews—Candra Stringent, Briana
Stringent, Rhonda Stringent, and Michael Stringent—as well as his treasured great-nieces and
nephew, Malichite Merenda, Layla Merenda, Lily Merenda, and Bricen Maddon.

Honoring Greg’s wishes, all services will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Greg’s memory may be made to the Appalachian Trail
Conservancy at appalachiantrail.org.
