James R. Treon, 72, of Hazleton, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday
September 10, 2025.
Born and raised in Hazleton, he was the son of the late James M. Treon and Joan (Staber) Bast,
and he remained a lifelong resident of the area.
Jim was a graduate of West Hazleton High School and continued his education at Penn State
Hazleton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1973.
Before retiring, he was employed as an Information Technology Manager with Cargill
Corporation. Following retirement, he enjoyed working at Tunnessen Auto Parts.
A familiar face around town, Jim could often be found at Carmen’s Bakery or walking the Laurel
Mall, always ready to greet friends and share candy with those he met. His greatest joy was
spending time with his grandchildren, especially cheering on his grandson Justin at baseball
games.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert Bast.
Left to treasure his memory are his loving daughter, Jessica M. Spare, and her fiancé, Jason
Samler, of Drums; his brothers, Theodore A. Treon and Christopher Bast, both of West Hazleton;
his stepbrother, Robert Bast of Hazle Township; and his stepsister, Patricia Popiel of Ormond
Beach, Florida. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Bryanna Polasick, Justin Spare,
and Jalena Samler, along with many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, all services will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home, Hazleton.
