Joseph L. "Pierogie Joe" Stanavage Sr., 76 of Hazleton the founder / operator of Joe's Homemade Pierogie's passed away Thursday, December 4 at his home.
Born in Hazleton he was the son of the late Edward A. and Helen D. (Godinsky) Stanavage.
Before retiring he was a 47 year employee at the former Bemis as a pressman.
Joe was also the Candyman and Mr. Softee.
He loved making pierogies and donuts, attending fairs and festivals, talking with people, traveling with his wife especially Disney.
Joe was a member of the Hazle Azalea Fellowship Lodge #327, Scottish Rite Valley of Bloomsburg, and the Hazleton Area JC's.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was Brother; Ed.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years the former Eloise Schran. Sons; Joseph and John and his wife Sara. Sister; Pat. Grandchildren; John Jr., Hannah, Weslee, Millie, and Olive. Niece; Lisa Stanavage also survives.
Friends may call on Friday December 12 from 4 to 8pm at the Joseph B. Conahan, 532 North Vine St, Hazleton, PA 18201.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
