June Martha May , R.N.

June Martha May R.N., born June 14, 1946, died on December 18, 2023,
following a long term illness. 
June was the daughter of the late Walter and Gladys (Carter) May.
June graduated from Hazleton High School in 1964 and Allentown Hospital
School of Nursing in 1967. She moved to New York City and was employed by
NYU Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan for 40 years as a head nurse. She
later transitioned into private duty nursing and cared for several high profile
clients. One of her most notable clients being Katherine Hepburn. 
June retuned to Hazleton, to the house in which she was raised and worked
nights at Hazleton General Hospital for the remainder of her career.
In her free time, June enjoyed traveling, jigsaw puzzles, the casino, and
shopping. An independent and very caring person, June obstinately adhered to
her value system.  She met all her challenges with strength and dignity.  If you
were lucky enough to be befriended by June, she became your friend for life. 
June never married or had children of her own, but she leaves behind her very
dear friend, Jane Martin, and her beloved “adopted” grandson “Pooh Bear”. 
In abiding by June’s wishes, there will be no service. In remembrance of June
please send donations to the Hazleton Animal Shelter.
