Kathy O’Hara of West Hazleton, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at Lehigh Valley
Hazleton, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Catherine
(O’Donnell) Tracy. She grew up in a loving family and continued strong friendships with her
siblings throughout her life.
She was a 1965 graduate of St. Gabriel High School and received a Bachelor of Education
degree in 1969 from College Misericordia.
Prior to retiring she taught for 35 years as an elementary teacher in the Hazleton Area School
District.
She was a lifelong member of Annunciation Parish, Church of St. Gabriel.
To know Kathy was to appreciate her sense of humor and quick Irish wit. There was always
laughter and a smile on your face after a conversation with her, and your heart was lighter.
Kathy was a devoted wife, proud mother, sister and friend.
She was a true fan of the “Fighting Irish”. She cheered on Notre Dame every season and could
belt out The Victory March. While attending games in South Bend, she would always visit the grotto to light a candle and silently pray.
This year many of her Fighting Irish friends will light a candle in the Grotto for Kathy and say a
prayer in her memory, for a friend who quietly lived her life as a kind and caring person.
Kathy leaves behind her loving and devoted husband Robert (Botcho) O’Hara and their son
Kevin. Botcho and Kathy celebrated 49 years of marriage and genuine friendship.
Also surviving are a brother Michael Tracy and wife Angie, sisters Nancy McGowan, Tishie
Prahlad and husband Ashok, numerous nieces and nephews and too many friends to mention.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 AM at Annunciation Parish, Church of
St. Gabriel, Hazleton with the Rev. Thomas J. O’Hara, C.S.C, Kathy's brother in law presiding.
Interment will be private in St. Gabriel Cemetery, Hazleton.
The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Joseph B.
Conahan Funeral Home, Inc. 532 N. Vine St. Hazleton.
