Mark P. Koval, 57, of Hazleton, passed away peacefully Monday evening at Mountain
City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hazle Township, after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Hazleton, he was the son of Michael and Mary E. (Dean) Koval and
a lifelong resident of the area.
Mark was a graduate of Bishop Hafey High School Class of 1985. He received a
degree in Biochemistry from DeSales University. He later went on to do graduate
studies in Biology at Lehigh University.
Prior to an early retirement, Mark was a book publishing editor for education text books
at Hayward Press, West Hazleton.
Having deep faith, he was a lifetime member of St. Cyril and Methodius Church of St.
Joseph and an active member if the Holy Name Society.
For many years he worked in the fund raising events for the parish including the annual
Church bazaar.
He was an avid fan of Notre Dame, the Yankee’s and the Jets.
Mark will always be remembered as a kind loving son, brother and nephew.
Preceding in death was an infant brother, Patrick, his maternal grandparents, Michael
and Rita Dean and fraternal grandparents Michael and Frances Koval
Mark leaves behind his loving parents, Michael and Mary Elizabeth Koval, Hazleton,
his brother Michael Koval and wife Amy, New Freedom, PA. Also, his
nephews, Michael, Nicholas and David Koval, all of New Freedom.
Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family thanks the 5th Floor Nursing Staff of the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton
Campus, and the staff at Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their
genuine compassionate care for Mark.
Due to renovations at St. Cyril and Methodius Parish, Church of St. Joseph, A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Holy Rosary Church,
Hazleton. Interment will follow in the Chapel at Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM prior to the
Mass.
