Mary Ann O’Donnell, 74 of Hazleton passed away peacefully Wednesday evening at
Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born and raised in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Teresa
(Gallagher) O’Donnell.
Mary Ann attended Hazleton High School and then went on to pursue a career in the food
industry.
She began waitressing at downtown restaurants. Her first was at the Blue Comet, then the
Coney Island and last at the Copper Kettle. With her great smile and kind personality, the
local patrons came daily to enjoy her friendship and service. She loved her loyal customers.
Prior to retiring in 2008, she waitressed at Boscovs’s Department Store. Her retirement
caused tearful good byes’ and hugs from all those she served, ending a chapter in her life
where she always made people smile.
Mary Ann was very proud of her Irish heritage and one of her favorite days was St. Paddy’s
Day, singing Irish songs and wearing green.
She had devout faith and was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Parish, church of
Transfiguration, West Hazleton.
Preceding in death were her parents William and Mary Teresa O’Donnell, a baby sister
Patricia and a nephew Ryan Condo.
Mary Ann leaves behind her best friend and soulmate, Terry Woodring, they shared many
happy years together.
Also surviving are her dear sisters, Maureen Condo and husband Thomas, Slocum
Township, Grace McGee and husband John, Weatherly, also her nephews John McGee and
wife Melissa, Kyle McGee and wife Courtney, Thomas Condo and wife Chelsea and niece
Lauren Davidovich and husband Aaron.
When friends and relatives fondly think about Mary Ann they will remember her kindness and
Irish wit. Her place in heaven will be filled with fiddle music and lively jigs. Her Irish eyes will
forever shine down upon us.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 AM at Holy Name of Jesus,
Church of Transfiguration, West Hazleton. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery Freeland.
Friends may call from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church prior to the mass.
