Surrounded by faith and love, Robert Paul Cannon, 82, entered into eternal life on May 23rd. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Robert was born in Hazleton, son of the late Eugene W. and Helen L. (Carey) Cannon and was a resident
of the Hazleton Area. He graduated from Hazleton High School, 1961. He and his family relocated to the
Harveys Lake Area in 2004.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary J. Cannon (Darraugh). He is survived by son, Robert
J. Cannon and his wife, Carrie A., Downingtown; and daughter, Regina M. Cannon, Harvey’s Lake. Robert
is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kayla M., Tiersa J., Robert T., Phoebe G., Caleb J., Luke M., and
Cassia F.
Robert is survived by sister-in-law, Emma Jean Cannon (Cassano), Hazleton; brother, Francis C. Cannon,
Temecula, CA; sister, Kathleen M. and husband, John Moisey, Conyngham, PA; and brother Michael P.
and wife, Carol A. Cannon, Shiremanstown, PA. Robert is also survived by many nieces and nephews,
and great nieces and nephews.
Robert served in the United States Navy, 1961 – 1964. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in the
Hazleton Area. Later, he became Postmaster of Drums and Sybertsville offices. After retiring from the
U.S. Postal Service, he returned to work for Wilkes University as a Shuttle Bus driver.
Robert is preceded in death by his loving parents, by his beloved brother, Eugene F., 2014, Hazleton; and
sister-in-law Bonnie C. (Krough) Cannon of California, 2023.
Robert was a member of Saint Gabriel's Church, Hazleton; then became a member of Our Lady of
Victory Church. Robert's Catholic Faith and family were of utmost importance to him. Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Robert also wished to extend his gratitude to the many professionals who cared for him, in particular, Dr.
Michael A. Kovalick. Hospice of the Sacred Heart, The Veterans Association, and Allied Services were
paramount in Robert's care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 2nd, in Our Lady of Victory
Church, 16 2nd Street, Harveys Lake. The family will welcome family and friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00
AM at the church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home Inc., 532 North Vine Street,
Hazleton. In lieu of flowers, Robert kindly requests those interested to make a contribution to the
Parkinson's Foundation or to give to the local food banks.
