Robert A. Green, 94, of Hazleton, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, surrounded by his loving family, at the Pavilion of St. Luke Village, Hazleton, where he had been a resident for the past several months.
Born and raised in Hazleton, Robert was the son of the late Harry and Anna (Selfing) Green. A proud member of the Hazleton High School Class of 1949, he went on to earn a degree in Commerce and Finance from Penn State University. He furthered his education with a Master's degree in Economics and Finance from Bucknell University.
Robert proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, including military service in both the U.S. and Japan with the Army Security Agency. After his honorable discharge, he began a distinguished career in 1959 at Mutual of New York as a benefit consultant, eventually rising to the role of Vice President. In 1978, he transitioned to Spring Garden College in Philadelphia, where he served as Vice President for Administrative Services until his retirement in 1991. Prior to retiring, he was also the director of the Hazleton Center of Lackawanna Junior College.
A lifelong, devout Catholic, Robert was a member of St. Pius of Pietrelcina Parish, Church of St. Gabriel. He also served on the boards of CANDO and the Greater Hazleton Philharmonic, contributing to the community he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna Green
Above all, Robert will be remembered for his deep love and devotion to his family. He shared 61 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Anne T. (Ferrara) Green, and was a loving father to his three children: JoAnne Green of Alexandria, VA; Rosemary Delese and her husband, Mark, of Tampa, FL; and Edward "Ted" Green and his wife, Hye Jin, of Hoboken, NJ. His cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Joseph, and Angelina Delese, and Harrison Green, brought him great joy. Robert is also survived by his sister, Dr. Nancy Gilgannon, and his nephew, Randy Gilgannon, both of Hazleton.
Those who knew Robert will remember him for his gentle demeanor, warm smile, and quiet sense of humor. He was respected for his kindness, humility, and integrity. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday December 18th at 10:00 AM at St Pius Pietrelcina Parish, Church of St. Gabriel, Hazleton.Friends and relatives may call at the church from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM prior to the Mass. Interment will follow privately in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
