Robert Streisel Sr. Obituary

 

Robert Streisel, Sr. of Hazleton passed away Sunday evening at Forest Hills Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center, Weatherly where he had been a resident since October 2023
Born and raised in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Onderisin)
Streisel and a lifetime resident of the area.


He was a 1954 graduate of West Hazleton High School and began his career at the
Hazleton Standard Speaker in July of that year as a switchboard operator and
proofreader. He later accepted a position in the advertising department, working in
sales, ad layouts and copy writing for twenty years.


In 1976, Robert accepted a position with United Rehabilitation Services as their
printing department supervisor and remained there until his retirement in 1998. While
working at URS he also was manager of the Church Hill Cinema and Hersker
Theaters.


Robert served in the U.S Army Reserve’s from 1960 to 1966. While stationed at Fort
Knox, Kentucky with the 34 th Armor Battalion he was appointed Battalion reporter for
the “Turret Newspaper”.

Robert was an avid train enthusiast and a member of the Model Railroad club. His
favorite pastime was tending to his home garden of spring, summer and fall flowers
and plants.


He was a lifetime member of Annunciation Parish, Church of St. Gabriel.


He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, the former Helen Poulin. A
son Robert Streisel, Jr. of Fountain Hills, Arizona. Also surviving is a sister, Arlene
Streisel, West Hazleton and numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 AM at Annunciation Parish,
Church of St. Gabriel, Hazleton. A private interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call Friday morning from 9 AM to 10 AM at the church prior
to the Mass.


Donations in memory of Robert may be made to Church of St. Gabriel “Restore His
House” 122 S. Wyoming St. Hazleton, PA. 18201.
