It is with deepest sorrow that we announce that our beloved husband, father, and grandfather died on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Born in Hazleton on June 5, 1951, he was the only child of Francis and Carmella (Scatton) Makuta. After graduating from MMI Preparatory in 1969, he went on to obtain a degree in economics from Bucknell University in 1973. Stephen's professional career was spent in the garment industry between NEPA and NYC.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Carol (Komosinsky); daughters, Cara, (Maxwell Tolan), Laura, (Daniel Shust), and his cherished grandchildren, Caroline, Mia, and Callie; brothers- in-law, Stanley, Gerard, and Paul Komosinsky; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Stephen was a loving, devoted husband, supportive and understanding father, and a fun-filled grandfather. He will be fondly remembered for his generosity and gusto for life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 31st at 1:30 PM at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 14 E. Oak Street, Sheppton. Interment will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Church, prior to the mass.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home, Hazleton, PA.
