Thelma Ann Yuhas, 80, peacefully passed away on Saturday at her home, surrounded by the love of her
family. Born on September 17, 1944, she was the daughter of Vito and Thelma (Hospodor) Montefour of
Lattimer.
Thelma was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Kimberly Yuhas Sidari; her brothers, Ronald and
Joseph Montefour; and her parents. Her enduring legacy of love and compassion will be carried on by her
devoted husband, Wister Yuhas, Sr.; her loving siblings, Victor and Wayne Montefour, and Andrea Horan;
and her adoring son and daughter-in-law, Wister and Kristen Yuhas. She is also survived by her cherished
grandchildren and their spouses: Amanda and Eric Freedman, Cassandra and Kyle Overton, Chelsea and
Michael Cabell, Lawrence Sidari, Jr., Wister Patrick Yuhas and fiancée Alyssa Shamany, and Gianna
Yuhas. Thelma took immense joy in her great-grandchildren, her precious angels: Margot and Arthur
Freedman and Julian and Theo Cabell. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and countless
extended family and friends.
Thelma became an RN after graduating in 1965 from Hazleton General Hospital.
Known for her sweetness, reflected in her endearing nickname “Honey,” Thelma's greatest joy was her
family. In her professional life, Thelma was a devoted nurse, employed in nursing and supervisory roles
within hospitals and as a visiting nurse caring for the sick and elderly. Throughout her 55-year career, she
was honored for her unwavering dedication to her patients, receiving honors such as the YWCA Pearl
Award and Home-Health Services Woman of the Year. Thelma was fulfilled by mentoring young nurses,
imparting her knowledge and compassion to the next generations.
Actively engaged in numerous organizations and associations, she always gave her time to those in need.
Thelma delighted in preparing Sunday dinners for her family, traveling, gardening, and crafting with her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Cyril and Methodius Parish,
located at the Church of St. Joseph in Hazleton. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 to
10:30 AM. Interment will be private at Calvary Cemetery, Drums.
