If a a family’s choice is a traditional service with a casket, viewing, funeral service and burial, there are still many decisions to be made.
With two generations of care, Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home will guide you through the decisions needed to be made with as little stress as possible.
Funeral
A Funeral is often officiated by clergy at the funeral home, church or cemetery chapel. A funeral is held according to the family’s choosing, which may be a few days after the time of death, allowing family members to attend the service.
Visitation
At the visitation (or viewing) a casket is present at a traditional funeral which may be opened or closed depending on the family’s wishes. Also, family photographs and possessions are often on display to reminisce about a person’s life. The viewing is normally the day before the funeral service. It can also be the same day of the service and at the funeral home or church.
Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home will guide you to help make the correct decisions.
Burial
A traditional burial service may be conducted at the gravesite in a cemetery, mauseoleum or cemetery chapel (if weather conditions are not satisfactory.) At this point, the clergy offers final commital prayers and the casket is lowered into the grave.
If the decedent served in a branch of the armed forces, military rites are often accorded a this portion of the burial.
Traditional Funeral followed by Cremation
Traditional Funeral followed by Cremation follows the same steps as a Traditional Burial, but following the funeral service, the deceased is taken to the crematory.
The family then has the option to intern the cremains at the cemetery, place the cremains in a mantle urn to be displayed or scatter the cremains at a location which holds a special memory.
